Star Wars' fans went to twitter to remember the man, Kenny Baker, who played the role of the famous robot R2D2.

Baker passed away yesterday at the age of 81. In remembrance of Baker, Celeste@dawg4life99 tweeted, “I grew up with @StarWars.

It feels like I’ve lost a dear friend.” Anthony Shannon@AnthonyShannon2 tweeted that Star Wars “won’t be the same” without Baker, while KevinSmith@ThatKevinSmith (Jay and Silent Bob) tweeted that loosing Baker “feels like losing family.”

The Star Wars' family also tweeted out their condolences saying, “Today we lost a dear friend. We’ll miss you, Kenny Baker.”

Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, took to his twitter page to tweet about his friend and cast mate: “Goodbye #KennyBaker A lifelong loyal friend-I loved his optimism and determination. He was the droid I was looking for!”

Baker was born in Birmingham, UK, on August 24, 1934. He began acting in 1950 at the age of 16.

Twenty-seven years later, Baker got his big break with the role of R2D2 in the first Star Wars' film.

The role was such a success that the next year, in 1978, representatives for the historic Grauman Chinese Theatre asked Baker to come as R2D2 and place the robot’s feet in the concrete.

Baker went on to play in five more Star Wars' films as well as to star in several other movies. Among some of Baker’s film credits are the TV version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mona Lisa, and U.F.O.

His last appearance in a Star Wars' film was in 2005 in Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith.

Warwick Davis, who has also played in several Star Wars' films and can be seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, thanked Baker for widening the doors for “short actors.”

Davis tweeted, “#RIP #KennyBaker. Sad to say goodbye to a small man with a huge heart and personality. He paved the way for short actors of a generation.”
